horticultural mineral oil (Damoil)

Oil works by covering or smothering the pest so thorough coverage is essential. Applied as a concentration in the dormant season. Apply 4-6 gallons per 200-300 gallons of water to achieve a 2% concentration. In the summer post bud-break, a more dilute spray of less than 1% (0.75 gallons oil per 100 gallons of water) must be used.

Effect on Beneficials: Moderately Harmful
Material Type: Insecticide
Signal Word: Caution
Formulation: Liquid
EPA Number: 19713-123

Usage for horticultural mineral oil on Grapes

Dormant to Wooly Bud

Target Rate of application REI PHI MOA Eff. Notes
Grape Mealybug 1-2 % v/v 4 2 UNIM Apply late March to early April. Direct spray to trunk and main cordons. Do not apply horticultural mineral oil at these concentrations after bud break with green tissue. Sufficient coverage of the trunks, cordon, and early foliage is necessary. 4.0–6.0 gallons per 200–300 gallons water/acre; 1.0–2.0 gallons per 200–300 gallons water/acre when tank-mixed with other pesticides
Scale Insects 1-2 % v/v 4 2 UNIM Apply late March to early April. Direct spray to trunk and main cordons with a thorough wetting.

Wooly Bud to Budbreak

Target Rate of application REI PHI MOA Eff. Notes
Grape Mealybug 0.75 % v/v 4 2 UNIM May only give marginal control. Post bud-break, a more dilute spray must be used (0.75 gallons per 100 gallons of water per acre).
